Why Doesn't Yahoo Offer a Blog Search?

YahooYahoo offers the same usual array of Image, Music, News and generic Web searches, but they don’t have a Blog Search. Google’s blog search is very simple and I find that it’s weak, Technorati is plagued with scalability and uptime issues and all the others just don’t offer enough impact that Yahoo would have.

Searching blogs is much more powerful than searching the Web because the results can change instantly, providing users much more relevance. I think now is a good time for Yahoo to enter the blog-search niche since two others have and they really aren’t winning.

I vision Yahoo being a leader in offering a useful blog search. Not just aggregating, but also compiling content editors to promote various blog items to the Yahoo home page. I can see Yahoo extending blog search to include previews, rollovers with image assets and even share insight into searcher metrics so they can help improve the content on their blog.

Imagine it now: Yahoo leveraging their other services and mashing them up together into one blog search. I think it could be disruptive if they tried that out. It could be similar to AOL’s Mgnet service, but actually make it user-friendly.

Earlier, way back in 2005, Yahoo tried it out on the right rail of their site, but I haven’t seen it’s return since.

What features do you look for in a Blog Search?
