All Your E-Mail Are Belong to Us

Breaking! — That defines Google’s free e-mail service that millions of users count on and the news of this kind. It appears GMail had just taken a massive blow, resulting thousands of users becoming locked out of their account. This should serve as a reminder of the great power Google yields. *UPDATED BELOW!*

I finished of replying to an e-mail and all of a sudden, I wasn’t able to send it, citing error “796” (or “798”), which a quick Web search yielded no results. Then I decided it must have been a cookie problem, so I cleared cache/cookies logged out and attempted to login.

GMail Server Error 502

The only plug in this is that Twitter is an excellent communication tool to check the pulse on others. I was relieved that I wasn’t the only avid Gmail user who couldn’t access their e-mail. Hundreds of reports regarding the Gmail outage were posted on Twitter (per second).

At this time, it appears a very large number of people are impacted with no workaround. We just have to wait for the e-mail to come back.

When it’s back up I’ll let you know.

[Update 2:49PM PST] — Gmail is back up for me. Tentatively watching the Twitter Search for more info. I suggest clearing cache/cookies and waiting a few minutes before trying again. [Tweet]

[Update 2:52PM PST] — Able to search and access e-mail. Unable to send e-mail. [Tweet]

[Update 3:01PM PST] — Alternative to use light-HTML mode, thanks to Ariel Waldmen. Access Gmail via  https://mail.google.com/mail/h/. I just tested, can’t send e-mail. [Tweet]

[Update 3:29PM PST] — Gmail appears to be UP. I’m able to send and receive e-mail. [Tweet]
