Over the next 60 days, I will be blogging once a day. It’s not that I don’t want to do it; it’s that I let other priorities push my desire to share my perspectives and ideas with you. Blogging to me is both a professional activity to refine one’s thoughts, always refining the craft of writing and cathartic since I am able to blend my emotions and facts into my work.
In the picture shown above, you can see my chicken scratch sticky note declaring “blog once every day.”
Sixty days of blogging is like NaNoWriMo, sans novels and twice as long. I am curious about the impact of blogging continuously about the world around me. Also, as a marketer at heart, I am curious about the current state of traffic sources to blogs. I am also hoping to see if I can attract a new audience to my blog who finds my pieces intriguing, useful and hopefully a little bit entertaining.
Why?
At our June company meeting at Infusionsoft, they announced the internal launch of Own Your Summer, a neat campaign designed to reward entrepreneurs for investing in their business, learning small business marketing advice and taking time away to recharge. They’re giving away a slew of prizes throughout the summer, so you should definitely sign up. To make things exciting for employees, for those who declared a commitment and carry out it by the end of 60 days, they will win some prizes.
So, I declared that I wanted to do something I haven’t done before. Blog continuously for two months. While the prospect of it feels like binge-writing, the fact it’s on my blog, my editorial focus can be a bit more broad. I think if I can write for sixty days uninterrupted, it’ll make blogging become even more gratifying. I’ve also talked with a bunch of business owners and entrepreneurs who find it challenging to blog for themselves. So, to eat my words, I’d like to show that blogging e’ryday can be done — meaningfully.
While the prize at the end is a nice perk, it is more empowering to write continuously for 60 days. I’m technically behind by one day, so you can expect me to make that up shortly.
What will I write about?
I don’t know yet. I think I will focus my energies in sharing more riffs on small businesses, startups, content strategy and social media. I also want to author advice for others to maintain their vehicles. Oh, and probably a good part of my entries will be on using WordPress. I found that my article on securing WordPress was quite thrilling, took about two hours and it comes in at over four thousand words. I plan to also share my reactions from this ‘project’ — what was good and not so good from it.
#60DOB!
Let’s do this! I’ll include the #60DOB tag on all my posts if you want to check them out.
