I loved catching episodes of Rob and Big on MTV2, but sadly the season has ended April 15, 2008. The show was probably the best reality-television show that MTV produced which wasn’t centered around general distastefulness, Tila Tequila make-out contests or other mischief performed by Johnny Knoxville.
Rob and Big was focused on the friendship between Rob Dydek and Chris “Big Black” Boykin. The show would take viewers through the fun moments, sponsorship opportunities and bachelorhood between them and their pets. It was actually a good series that lasted three seasons, until Big Black became a father and the season came to an abrupt end.
According to fans on MTV’s Video portal, “OverDrive,” some suspect that MTV executives are being frugal and not upping their contacts with Rob and Big (despite going through four high-end vehicles, a comp’d condo, limos everywhere…):

“MTV, quit being cheap and dish out more money for Rob & Big, it’s your best show. “making the band” was stupid after the first season. “The Hills”…wtf is that garbage. DO WORK MTV!”djb28 (04.23.08 | 12:02 PM)
“Of all things wrong in the world, The end of this GREAT show is the most disturbing. You cant tell me that MTV can not pull anything out of their hat to keep this show running? Biggest mistake in MTV history. DO NOT LET THIS SHOW DIE! Its in its prime!”latinunited1 (04.16.08 | 8:40 PM)
“Good job mtv,you guys took out the best show on mtv ever…..and to still know the show “THE HILLS” is still on….nobody never watches “THE HILLS”…..anyway we all will miss you guys and congratulations on your new baby big black.”
However, fans shared their appreciation nonetheless for the duo and their entertainment:

I don’t think MTV executives pulled out any contracts, or weren’t open to negotiation. I just think that Rob and Big wouldn’t be the same without Big, and it’s very mature of him to dedicate himself to his family instead of an MTV reality TV show. Rob stated that he became “burnt out” over his reality TV show. That said, it’s probably the best decision to just end the series the way they have.
Maybe sometime, they will reunite and be neighbors and turn that into a reality show. Officially, MTV has no plans to continue a fourth season as the show has been permanently grounded.
